A Knightsbridge duplex apartment which was completely gutted and rebuilt to both celebrate the classic elements of the building, whilst creating a modern and elegant space.

A year of drawing, testing and research was undertaken alongside very talented artisans and craftsmen to develop the post tensioned solid stone staircase. Its structure was inspired by the architecture and incredible strength of a whale’s vertebrae.

Each detail, junction and moment was considered throughout the design process, including the lighting and furniture which was largely bespoke and created from scratch.

“This project was about deliberate contrast - ornate, antique pieces layered with bold modern gestures, sculptural stone set against traditional detailing. The staircase was the jewel in the crown – a post-tensioned structure carved from solid Combe Brune, inspired by the vertebrae of a whale. It was incredible to watch it evolve from early hand sketches, to stone carving, to finally being assembled on site. That process of testing, drawing, and mock-up development is something we thrive on at Undercover.

The kitchen was centred around carefully sourced Carrara marble, and every detail was developed in close collaboration with trusted makers. A year of research and refinement shaped the design, delivered with the team of artisans and consultants we return to time and again. Lennox is a clear expression of that craft - expressive, refined, and materially rich.

I joined the team at Stage 4 and saw the project through to completion. My responsibilities included assisting with all finishes and selecting furniture throughout the apartment. It was a huge learning curve and gave me the chance to work closely with contractors and watch the craftsmanship come to life on site.”
